Lordenshaw, Northumberland, England

Near Lordenshaw is a Bronze Age Camp, with Britain's biggest grouping of ` cup-and-ring' markings.

Border Forest Park, Northumberland, England

This is the largest man-made forest in Europe, comprising thousands of acres.
There are picnic sites and a resvoir(sp?), Kielder Water.

Gobekli Tepe near Urfa, Turkey

Near the Syrian border, 11,000 year old stone circles have been found here.

There are an estimated 30 stone circles, 7,000 years older than Stonehenge.

There are carvings of animals, including boars and scorpions.

The builders were hunters.

Bamiyan, Aghanistan

The world's oldest oil paintings have recently been discovered here, dating from the 7th century, has Buddhas and mythical animals.

This was also the site of the Giant buddha statues destroyed by the Taliban.

The locals are Hazaras,said to be escendants of Genghis Khan

Originally it was oval shaped.

Kinder Scout, Derbyshire

Kinder Scout is the highest point in the Peak District national park at 2,088ft
The peat is about 8,000 years old

Hathersage, Derbyshire, England

Charlotte Bronte stayed at the vicarage in 1845.
Hathersage appears in Jane Eyre as `Morton' which as well as Eyre is a local surname.
Grave in churchyard supposedly contains Little John's bones.
Church has views of Derwent valley .

Izaak Walton went fly-fishing here and described some of the valley's features in the Compleat Angler, his friend Charles Cotton lived at Beresford Hall(now demolished).
Some rocks used to be coral reefs.

Flash is supposedly England's highest village at 1,518 ft, Flash has given its name to an underworld expression for counterfeit money, because it was once where a group of coiners lived.

There are properly wide views from the top.

Cats Bells Hill, is where Beatrix Potter's Mrs Tiggy-Winkle lived.
